For centuries, rest in Black communities has been more than sleep — it has been a form of resistance, a quiet rebellion against systems built on overwork and survival.

As we enter June — a month that holds both Juneteenth and the softness of summer — we pause to remember: our ancestors knew rest was sacred.

From hush harbors to porch swings, from the hum of Sunday sermons to the healing power of a nap after church dinner, rest was woven into our survival and our joy.

Today, we carry that legacy forward. When we choose rest — not as a reward, but as a right — we are continuing a tradition of radical self-love and resilience.

“Rest is a form of resistance because it disrupts and pushes back against capitalism and white supremacy.”

— Tricia Hersey, The Nap Ministry

At Solmara, we believe rest is a return. A reconnection to your body, your breath, and your birthright. Whether it’s 10 minutes of stillness or a full night of deep sleep, your rest matters — not just for productivity, but for wholeness.

This Juneteenth, we invite you to rest in remembrance — and rise in restoration.

Our rest rituals —coming soon — are rooted in softness, designed for liberation. ✨
