May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and if you needed a sign to pause, breathe, and put yourself first—this is it.
Burnout isn’t a badge of honor. While the world may reward hustle, peace is what sustains us. Protecting your peace isn’t selfish—it’s essential.
Creating small pockets of peace throughout the day can make a powerful difference in how you show up—for your work, your relationships, and yourself.
Why It Matters
Modern life is full of noise. Whether it’s nonstop notifications, packed calendars, or emotional overload, it’s easy to run on autopilot. But here’s what we’ve learned:
The 5-Minute Reset
You don’t need hours to recharge—just five intentional minutes. Here’s a simple reset routine you can try anytime, anywhere:
1. Move: Step away from your screen. Stretch, shake, or take a few steps outside.
2. Breathe: Try box breathing: Inhale (4) – Hold (4) – Exhale (4) – Pause (4). Repeat twice.
3. Check In: Ask yourself: How do I feel right now? What do I need?
4. Soften: Unclench your jaw. Drop your shoulders. Relax your hands. Breathe again.
5. Re-Enter: Come back to your day with clarity. Choose your next action mindfully—not reactively.
You don’t need an hour. You don’t need a spa. You just need five minutes to check in with yourself.
Here’s a simple structure you can adapt anytime you need to reset:
1. Move.
Step away from your screen. Stretch, shake it out, or step outside for a breath of fresh air.
2. Breathe.
Inhale deeply for four counts, hold for four, exhale for four, pause for four. (Box breathing—Google it, love it, repeat it.)
3. Check in.
Ask: How am I feeling? What do I need right now?
4. Soften.
Relax your jaw. Unclench your hands. Drop your shoulders. (Yes, they’re up again.)
5. Re-enter.
Choose your next task intentionally, not reactively. You’re back—with more clarity and less cortisol.
You don’t have to fix everything in one breath. But giving yourself just five minutes can shift everything. And if you’re still learning to protect your peace, that’s okay—it’s a practice, not a performance.
Your Peace Is Powerful
The more we normalize everyday rest and boundaries, the more we protect our mental health. And the better we care for ourselves, the more fully we can show up—for work, for love, for life.
So here’s your challenge: Take 5 minutes today to reset.
Your peace deserves protection. You do, too.
